Sniper Design 2011-03-29

I just read an article by Gabe Suarez in a special edition of a magazine I sometimes read. He talks about Kalashnikov inspired sniping systems. He did not talk about the Dragunov SVD, since its a much harder weapon to get. He instead discussed the PSL and the converted Saiga 308. these happen to be wonderful weapons since they have calibers that work for long range shooting and are able to be acquired by an American enthusiast. This has inspired me to come up with a neat cost friendly idea for a Kalash-minded "sniper" rifle. Photobucket My plan, if I ever get around to it, is kinda simple. It requires a few more modifications this way, but its really possible. Most of the upgrades are the same, the only thing that would change is the rifle used to do it. First, I would get a low costing AK that has the bar on the side of it for the scope mount. it has to be solid stock and full sized or I'm wasting time. I would have to get a 6.03mm barrel and a 3x simple scope and proper fitting rings in order to make sure that one doesnt make the other a waste. the 6.03mm barrel would have to be extended, otherwise its just a "better assault rifle," when I am looking for a "sharpshooting platform." To protect the extended inner barrel, a suppressor tube would be fixed to the end of the rifle. A 3x scope is ideal, because then you can see what you are shooting. If you can get a really good zero on the optic, then you are the man (or woman, dont correct me!). If you get the hopup adjusted correctly and are using .25g's, you will have a rifle worthy of the scope. a 9.6v battery in the stock would give me the trigger response that I need. I am NOT GOING TO FUCK WITH THE GEARBOX!! I will say one more time just to be clear, I AM NOT GOING TO FUCK WITH THE GEARBOX!! Some would ask why I am using profanity... dont ask, I dont wanna discuss it. Some would ask why I am bolding that point, or making the choice to keep the gearbox stock. This is kinda simple, but I'll explain just in case. Where I play airsoft, the rules for a sniper rifle are screwy. 1st sword states you have to have a certificate to use a sniper rifle that shoots over 400fps WART offers qualifications 1st Sword offers qualifications maybe twice a year Spokane Airsoft offers qualifications but they are too far for me to go. this is just way too much trouble for me to put up with. I dont have time to go take a test to show people that I am smart enough to know what 100 feet looks like. I dont wanna put myself in a position where I can only use a single shot or semi-only rifle. I dont wanna have to break stuff to make this rifle semi-only... I wanna be able to shoot people who jump up at 30 feet away, not have to drop it to draw a pistol only to find my head shot off by some kid who has a drum on his M4 who then lectures me later on that even though he is half my age that his dad gives him lots of money for being a good boy and that he is better than me with his superior technology that he had worked on by someone he doesnt even know how to say his real name! Instead, I will keep it simple because we are trying to save money and time. on a chronograph, this is still an AEG, in common use, it is still an Assault Rifle... think of it as giving steroids to your AK. But once you open the gearbox, you go into a new world of "oh jesus christ!! I just screwed up something simple!" This way, a battery and barrel upgrade will do extremely well in making this rifle reach where you want it to reach. I'm not even gonna discuss replacing the motor. I might have the fuse replaced with a mosfet by a celebrity in our area. But the bottom line is, its a cheap and simple way to make a kalashnikov sniper system. you can use a high end AK, or you can use a Cyma. Some JG models will work. But you have to have the ability to put the scope on it. Otherwise you are wasting time on the other stuff. you can do it scopeless if you feel like it. then you are doing something else and should consider what the point of this rifle is in the first place. Thank you for reading. Hope you found this useful. if not, show it to someone who will.
